Typically, people would advise us not to self-medicate with cannabis oil, but after studies have been made when it comes to the effects it has on different illnesses, even that belief is slowly being overturned. From nausea, pains, cramps, to even cancer, cannabis oil certainly has a number of different medical benefits that you might want to acquaint yourself with. People who live with chronic pain, spastic movements, and tremors, as well as those who battle with cancer and have been suffering from nausea, can certainly benefit from the use of cannabis and cannabis oil. There is now scientific evidence to back up the radical claim that the plant and some of its byproducts have certain medical benefits despite its notoriety as a recreational drug. It has already been proven to provide certain benefits when it comes to pain, to the point where it is also prescribed (medical marijuana) to people who are undergoing chemotherapy and other related medical procedures. It is also known to have an effect on neurological disorders and, in recent studies, is shown to be capable of killing cancer cells. But what is the truth behind all of these claims? In this book, you'll learn more about its effects and how you can put cannabis oil to use. Neurological and behavioral effects of cannabis use in adolescence ab 39.9 EURO Case Study and Review
Handbook of Cannabis and Related Pathologies: Biology, Pharmacology, Diagnosis, and Treatment is the first book to take an interdisciplinary approach to the understanding of cannabis use and misuse. Recent worldwide trends toward decriminalizing marijuana for medical use have increased legal use of the drug and recreational use remains high, making cannabis one of the most commonly used drugs.Cannabis has a wide range of adverse neurological effects, and use and abuse can lead to physical, social, and psychopathological issues that are multifarious and complex. Effective understanding and treatment requires knowledge of the drug's effects from across scientific disciplines. This book provides an overview of the biological and pharmacological components of the cannabis plant, outlines its neurological, social, and psychopathological effects, assists in the diagnosis and screening for use and dependency, and aids researchers in developing effective treatments for cannabis-related issues and disorders.Fully illustrated, with contributions from internationally recognized experts, it is the go-to resource for neuroscientists, pharmacologists, pathologists, public-health workers, and any other researcher who needs an in-depth and cross-disciplinary understanding of cannabis and its effects.Comprehensive chapters include an abstract, key facts, mini dictionary of terms, and summary pointsPresents illustrations with at least six figures, tables, and diagrams per chapterProvides a one-stop-shopping synopsis of everything to do with cannabis and its related pathology, from chemicals and cells, individuals and communities, and diagnosis and treatmentOffers an integrated and informed synopsis of the complex issues surrounding cannabis as a substance, its use, and its misuse
Marijuana is the most widely used illicit drug. While the scientific literature does find possible theoretical applications for cannabis in the clinical practice, it also uncovers some worrisome dangers surrounding the use of the drug. Besides the respiratory problems associated with the smoking route of administration, it has been found that cannabis use is related to neuropsychiatric and cerebrovascular complications. We conducted a review of the harmful neurological and behavioral consequences related to cannabis use, focusing on adolescence. Given the likelihood of risk during teenage years when the dangerous effects of cannabis are more pronounced, we believe that the population should be properly guided and instructed about the risks of marijuana use, especially the more vulnerable age groups such as teens.
The science of cannabinoids is 50 years old. These past years provided a remarkable and constant number of breakthroughs, showing that the signaling mediated by endocannabinoids and lipid mediators impacts almost every function of the body. Indeed, this represents a special field of research, which allows tackling the complexity of biological functions, and provides potential therapeutic frameworks for a plethora of diseases. The number of exciting discoveries brought up to the scientific community almost on a daily basis highlights the importance of an updated volume on this topic. Particularly, given that potential therapeutic benefits of cannabis and cannabinoids are currently under heavy analysis in many Countries worldwide. Hence, the main objective of this book is to explore not only some of the many functions of endocannabinoids (and lipid mediators) in physiological control of networks at a cellular and molecular level, but also to extend this knowledge for potential use of cannabinoids and/or drugs regulating endocannabinoid levels in vivo as therapeutic target(s) in neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. In this book new findings and ideas about the endocannabinoid system and its roles as neuronal circuit modulator related to human brain pathologies characterized by alterations in neuroplasticity will be highlighted. Endocannabinoid roles in key systems controlling appetite, pain, learning and memory, as well as sleep and stress responses will be presented. In addition, pathological processes associated with changes in endocannabinoid signaling will be discussed in the context of anxiety, autism, depression and addiction. This book will provide an excellent background to researchers looking for extending their areas of interest, and to newcomers in the field.
Addictive Substances and Neurological Disease: Alcohol, Tobacco, Caffeine, and Drugs of Abuse in Everyday Lifestyles is a complete guide to the manifold effects of addictive substances on the brain, providing readers with the latest developing research on how these substances are implicated in neurological development and dysfunction. Cannabis, cocaine, and other illicit drugs can have substantial negative effects on the structure and functioning of the brain. However, other common habituating and addictive substances often used as part of an individual's lifestyle, i.e., alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, painkillers can also compromise brain health and effect or accentuate neurological disease. This book provides broad coverage of the effects of addictive substances on the brain, beginning with an overview of how the substances lead to dysfunction before examining each substance in depth. It discusses the pathology of addiction, the structural damage resulting from abuse of various substances, and covers the neurobiological, neurodegenerative, behavioral, and cognitive implications of use across the lifespan, from prenatal exposure, to adolescence and old age. This book aids researchers seeking an understanding of the neurological changes that these substances induce, and is also extremely useful for those seeking potential treatments and therapies for individuals suffering from chronic abuse of these substances. Integrates current research on the actions of addictive substances in neurological disease Includes functional foods, such as caffeine beverages, that have habituating effects on the brain Provides a synopsis of key ideas associated with the consequences of addictive and habituating lifestyle substances
